This week in real time:

We spent Monday morning doing some chores including dumping the RV tanks, and re-filling our fresh water tank. Then we were ready to head back to our off-grid desert spot!

This week we woke up early enough to enjoy more sunrises, in addition to our daily sunset viewing. We continued to be spoiled with some cool jet flyovers, and the weather warmed up a bit!

After being in this area for a month, we finally made a trip into Death Valley National Park. As with many of our national park visits on this RV journey, we used this as a orientation to the park. Death Valley, like many other parks, is huge! We were able to see some of the highlights and get our bearings on this trip. It is not a very dog friendly park, so we definitely learned that we would want to return without the pups to check out some hikes. The weather has been a bit warmer this week, so it got up to almost 80 during the heat of the day while we were in Death Valley.

We were surprised how chilly we were in the shade at Badwater Basin, the lowest point in the US at 282 feet below sea level. This basin is typically a dried up lakebed, but due to the heavy rains in SoCal recently it has a fair amount of water. In the photo below, the small sign you see halfway up the mountain says "sea level".

We also drove a scenic route to see Artists Palette, where minerals in the rock have created some very cool rock colors! Zabriski Point was another unique mountain formation.

It was recommended that we check out "Star Wars Canyon" which got its name due to the low training flights that go through the canyon. We were lucky enough to see a plane fly through right as we arrived to Rainbow Canyon (aka Star wars canyon). There were actually a number of Star Wars Episode 4 scenes filmed in Death Valley, though we did not learn about any at this particular spot.

When we got home we watched the sunset over what we believe is the same snow-capped mountain that we saw from the other side in Death Valley, Telescope Peak.
