This week in real time:
Before leaving the desert we took in a few more sunrises and sunsets, and had to do a little maintenance! We noticed one of the trailer tires was wearing excessively, and did not want to chance a blowout on our big drive. Luckily we had a brand new spare and all of the tools to change it out.
A lot can change for us in a week! On Monday we made the 4 hour drive from Ridgecrest, CA to San Diego! The drive took us past many Joshua Trees, and Mt. San Antonio, which I believe is also called Mount Baldy.
We went from off-grid living to staying at a pretty fancy RV resort with lots of amenities. Being at a full hook up RV site (meaning we have water, electric, and sewer) definitely allows us to take advantage of some luxuries compared to off-grid camping. We can use as much water as we want (within reason), and run our water heater at all times. We can also use all of our electric appliances like the fireplace, dehumidifier, and toaster oven without concern for running the batteries down! Basically, we can function more like a normal house without having to monitor our water and power consumption as closely as when we are off grid. The other big perk, is that we reserved this site for a month so we don't have to pack up and move our house for awhile. Safe to say we are getting comfortable here!
The second morning we were here, Dylan got to go surfing at sunrise with Tim and Zach. He rode over to Sunset Cliffs on his bike, right past Sea World. They went for a jog to get warmed up and the put on wetsuits and then hopped in right there at the bottom of the cliffs pictured below! Dylan caught a couple waves, first ones for him in the Pacific Ocean. It was the best way to start the day. He kept calling it a San Diego Triathalon!
We did not do a great job of documenting our first weekend in San Diego hanging out with friends, we were having too much fun! We met up with our friends Matt and Jenn in their neighborhood, North Park, for delicious tacos and went to a cool brewery! We also got to hang out with Dylan's friends from highschool and their two sweet kiddos! They toured us around Point Loma including a visit to Cabrillo National Monument. We also caught the sunset at the Torrey Pines Gliderport together!
