Time Capsule:
A year ago, we left chilly New Mexico to hang out in the heatwave in Tucson, AZ! We needed to be in a bigger city for access to truck and vet appointments, and were excited to visit Saguaro National Park! The saguaro cacti were magnificent, and we were lucky to see them blooming! Luna got some booties to keep her paws safe in cactus land, Xirco was born in the desert so he isn't bothered by them! Dylan and Xirco also braved the heat to visit the Pima Air Museum!
Last week in real time:
Happy belated Easter! We arrived to Stewarts Point on Lake Mead, NV, the day before Easter. This was our first trip to Nevada in the RV, and the Lake Mead views are impressive! We listened to some podcasts about Lake Mead and learned that as the water levels have dropped some ruins of old communities have been revealed, among other things. Lost cities come to the surface in lake mead
On Easter we went to explore the nearby Valley of Fire State Park. Unfortunately, we learned that hiking in state/national parks is a popular Easter activity! Despite the crowds we enjoyed a fun hike among beautiful and brightly colored rock formations. We also saw petroglyphs and petrified logs! For our Easter dinner we cooked venison backstrap, with some coaching from my hunter brother, and it turned out great!
We had read that we might see some wildlife around Lake Mead, and enjoyed spotting wild burros most days we were there! They were especially active around sunset and dusk, which was not surprising as the highs were hitting 90 degrees last week!
There were some nearby desert springs where I heard people sometimes spotted bighorn sheep. We went to visit Rogers Spring which was beautiful, but did not see any bighorns unfortunately! We did take a nice hike with impressive lake views though!
Back to California next week!
