Time Capsule:
A year ago, we got the trailer stuck in Olympic National Forest - you can read the full blog post I about about that adventure on the blog post titled "Did you know the National Park Service flies mountain goats out of Olympic?" Once we got out of that pickle we had a blast touring around Washington's National Parks with Hailey and Jeremy who flew from PA to meet up with us! Plus a bonus hike with Lucy and her Mom who were visiting Portland!
Sorry for taking a few weeks off, things have been busy! Let's get you caught up:
Being back in San Diego was great because we knew the fun things to do, we had a stable address to receive packages, and less travel gave us time to work on some RV maintenance projects! We installed an adapter to our air conditioning unit that is supposed to make it more efficient. We also spent a good bit of time on our roof touching up some seals, and replacing covers for the solar wiring. I also got the chance to defrost our freezer-which is a necessity every few months as a nice ice crust forms on the back wall.
We took another day trip to fiesta island and did computer work from the truck, not a bad office! Unfortunately it was too windy to paddle board that day, but we got to explore some new hiking trails.
On one of the warmest days while we were in San Diego this time around, we made it over to Coronado for a beach day! Turns out, the dog beach is right next to the runway for the Naval base so we unintentionally caught a great show!
The most important reason for our return to San Diego was Matt & Jenn's wedding! We joined the bride and groom for the Thursday night kickoff of wedding weekend with their out of town guests in their neighborhood, North Park. Unfortunately no pictures were taken but it was a great night! For the big day we drove to the venue in gorgeous Carlsbad! We had the best night watching Mr. and Mrs. Beer tie the knot and celebrating with all of their friends!
The Sunday tradition of watching Tim's Men's league lacrosse game continued, but this time it was a doubleheader for playoffs.
Our last few nights in San Diego were spent in great company! For Cinco De Mayo, Tim and Allie hosted us at their gorgeous house for taco night. We had a blast hanging out, playing with their kids, and catching up with Tim's parents too! The next night we met up with Matt and Jenn and their friends at the post-run club happy hour. Milestone running club in San Diego is an awesome group, we had a blast chatting with all of the new friends we met over the past few weeks. Only photo evidence that we left the RV is this passionfruit plant we spotted in the North Park area-people grow them as fence cover!
Our departure from San Diego was a little slow as we had been busy socializing rather than packing...but I did prep some good food for our long travel days! We were on a mission to get from San Diego back to the ranch in Clayton, ID - a casual 1,000 miles apart. Our goal for the first day was to get into travel mode and get out of the San Diego/LA traffic areas. We went back to the spot we had stayed on our last drive out of San Diego (Barstow, CA. Peggy Sues Diner) because it felt easy, but were shocked to find it was 95 degrees until about 9pm. Safe to say we were on a mission to book it further North after that. Against all run club recommendations to drive up the Eastern side of the Sierra Nevada, we took the route up through Nevada. It was a pretty scenic drive, and we even went by Great Basin National Park though we didn't stop this time. For the second night of quick travel day stops we found a rest stop in Lund, NV, although we almost drove 7 miles of gravel road to go to a hot springs campground but decided the detour might not be worth it for a quick overnight. On day 3, we made it to our goal destination of Twin Falls, ID where there was a free campground and we were able to snag a spot!
Next time we will fill you in on our Twin Falls adventures, the drive to the ranch, and what we've been up to in Clayton!
