This week in real time:
Dylan had an awesome two-day hunt with Cole. It started with a little rain, sleet, and some tired llamas...but they made it to the designated camp ~3700 feet up from the ranch. Even though they came out empty handed, they saw some awesome wildlife and Dylan captured some great footage and pictures!
When the boys returned home we got together with the Washburn's for homemade ice cream with peaches and/or homemade hot fudge. It was delicious! We watched the movie McFarland which was super cute, and nostalgic for Dylan and I as it is about a high school cross country team!
We had a few productive days where Dylan and I helped clean another local ranch, and moved the RV back to our original location. These days were also helpful for me to prep for my own first backpacking adventure. After the boys had a few nights away, Maddy and I decided to take a turn in the wilderness.
Maddy researched a trail in the Sawtooth Wilderness that would take us to two pretty well known Alpine Lakes - Alice and Toxaway. We ended up clocking 20.5 miles and more than 3,000 feet of elevation gain over 3 days, with two nights camping in beautiful lakefront spots. Carrying a heavy pack was a new experience for me but it was so worth it to be able to immerse ourselves in the nature for a few days! Alice Toxaway Loop.
Although it gets chillier each evening we are here, we are still getting some warm days! We are soaking up this late summer/early fall weather before the Idaho winter arrives. However, this week we are flying home for my brother's wedding!
What we're eating this week:
Backpacking meals - we've learned from the experts that the "Peak" brand are the best. That's all we've tasted so far and can't complain!
